Wow! I just can’t get enough of this plant, it’s colour is so, so intense and with the low level autumn light shining behind it, with maybe my Golden Retriever next to it, you’d think they were just showing off – the Retriever definitely is! At time of flowering, this is my favourite and it comes at a great time because Aster x frikaartii ‘Monch’ is out and I can’t tell you how good it looks next to this plant, nor can I begin to explain how good Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm’ looks next to grasses which have taken on their mellow hues and flamboyantly tactile seed heads. As much as I love this plant I can’t help but feel sad at this time of the year, as I know as good as it looks, apart from maybe a sedum, or the ivy, (Hedera) there really isn’t going to be any more flowering from other plants after this and I feel a great sense of emptiness at the thought of winters lack of gardening. With all that said, what a way to go out, it really is a riot of autumnal colour!
