Nepeta, or else known as ‘Catmint’ is must have to the wildlife garden, especially if you have cats – they just seem to be addicted to its scent! Nepeta ‘Walker’s Low’ is quite a contradiction because it’s not actually that low at 60cm, (2 foot,) however, I think that’s a good thing because it means you can see more of it’s beautiful mauve/blue flowers, which it produces in huge numbers and it’s just as well really, because the bees, much like the cats, can’t get enough of this plant. Nepeta is a really good plant for under planting roses, or near walkways and is really good in that it flowers before Lavender and then again after lavender if you cut it back, which will stop the foliage looking horrible and please the bees no end!
