A fabulous, showy, jewel like purple flowering summer bulb, that bees and butterflies adore. Quite honestly, this plant is so easy it wouldn’t make any sense to not have some in the garden, and preferably en masse! Like all bulbs the foliage will become tatty after flowering, but if you plant it in between late flowering perennials like Aster x frikartii ‘Monch,’ Rudbeckia ‘Goldsturm,’ Helenium’s, or Sedum’s, then this won’t be a problem as the later growing perennials will hide the fading foliage. The stems are so thin, that they’ll also look great growing up through others plants, complementing their display by adding contrast in the form of their round heads, which are not just one flower, but made up of many tiny flowers, ideal for bees and butterflies wanting a meal without the journey! Honestly, you can’t go wrong with these, their just so accommodating and really provide a show!
